One of the magical things about a music festival is the community that forms in the campgrounds. You'll find complete strangers getting together and sharing tunes from a standard repertoire, impromptu potluck meals, and all-night jam sessions. There are plenty of opportunities to camp at Pickin’ in the Pines, whether you’re staying in a small tent or a large RV.
All camping areas are a moderate, 1/8- to 1/4-mile walk from the Pine Mountain Amphitheater. There will be a free shuttle service between the campground and the amphitheater running approximately every 15 minutes from one half hour before the main stage opens, until one half hour until the main stage closes. The campgrounds connect to the Flagstaff Urban Trail System (FUTS), where you can hike or bike for miles.
Check-in and Reservations
The Pickin’ in the Pines campgrounds will open at 12:00 pm on Thursday, September 16, 2010 and close at 12:00 pm on Monday, September 20, 2010. Specific sites in the Group Campground and Carnival Lot are available on a first come, first served basis and cannot be reserved in advance. We recommend that you arrive early to claim a campsite. Specific sites in the Family Campground will be assigned based on your needs and the size of your camping vehicle.
For those choosing to arrive earlier than Thursday or stay past Sunday, you must make a separate reservation with Coconino County Parks and Recreation by calling (928) 774-3464. Please do not contact the Coconino County campground, as they can not answer questions about Pickin' in the Pines camping options.
Option 1 :: The Group Campground :: $20 per adult
If you're looking for good campground pickin', this is the place. Tall pine trees create a rustic “camping in the woods” experience and provide shade during the heat of the day. Several picnic tables, raised BBQ grills, and campfire rings are available to share with your neighbors. This area is perfect for tent camping or for small trailers. This is open camping; individual sites are not designated in this campground. All sites are available on a first come, first served basis. Porta-potties and water are provided, but there are no shower facilities. The area along the south fence will be designated as a "quiet area" as it adjoins the Luke AFB camping area.
To reduce congestion and enhance safety, the central area of the Group Campground will be designated "Tents Only" and campers in this area will be asked to move their vehicles a very short distance to the parking area along the Carnival Lot fence. The remainder of the camping area is accessible to vehicles with lengths of 19 feet or less, but we ask those camping in a trailer to move their tow vehicle to the parking area along the Carnival Lot fence after they've set up camp.
Option 2 :: The Carnival Lot :: $20 per adult
If you've got a bus, RV, trailer, or other large vehicle, this is your choice for a home base at Pickin' in the Pines. There is ample space for the big rigs here and the solid, level surface provides an easy and stable setup. Pickin’ is allowed through the night, and it’s okay to run your generator here from 6am to 10pm, but please be considerate of your neighbors. Overflow tent camping is provided in this area. This is dry-camping only; there are no RV hookups in this area. If you require RV hookups, see option 3.
Option 3 :: The Family Campground :: $60-70 per site
This campground provides forested camping in individual sites, each with its own picnic table, fire ring, and parking area. A small number of sites with water and sewer hookups are available in this campground for an additional $10 fee **NOTE: hookup sites are sold out**. These campsites range from a few large pull-through RV sites that are spacious and level to smaller terrace sites on a hillside suitable for car camping with a tent. Large RVs may require some adept maneuvering and it can get muddy if it rains. Most medium-sized RVs should have no problem fitting in, but for easy setup on firm level ground, we recommend the Carnival Lot (Option 2) for larger vehicles. It is important to note whether you will be camping in a tent or other vehicle and the size and type of the vehicle in order to assign the most appropriate campsite. You may do this on the PayPal checkout page. Campsites in this area will be assigned based on your needs and the type and size of your vehicle.
Because of the variety of camping vehicles in this area, we ask that you respect your neighbors and please keep generator usage to a minimum, operating only between the hours of 8-11am and 5-8 pm.
Each site allows up to 4 adults and 2 vehicles. A tow vehicle and trailer count as two vehicles. Additional adults may camp here at the rate of $20 per person. Additional vehicles will be charged $5 per vehicle.
